This is a river view of the Genesee Yacht Club.
THE CLUB:
The Genesee Yacht Club is located on the Genesee River in Rochester New York. The club is situated on the east side of the river approximately 0.6 miles from the mouth of the river which opens onto Lake Ontario. The sailing club, noted for its friendly and casual atmosphere, was established about 60 years ago. Membership is limited to 150 members. A competitive Tuesday night and Saturday racing schedule keeps members busy. Budding members compete in a six boat Optimist fleet. The club sponsors the long distance across Lake Ontario "Scotch Bonnet Light Race" on an annual basis.
INFORMATION FOR VISITING YACHTS:
Cruising boats from other clubs located on Lake Ontario are welcomed to the club. Docking is available if a slip is open and reciprocal agreements with other clubs apply. Cooking facilities, outdoor grills, and showers are available. A shopping center within a short walking distance has a large IGA grocery store (at last report, if asked they will drive you and your supplies back to your boat), West Marine, drug store, Chinese restaurant, Blockbuster Video, Laundromat, liquor store, and a pizza parlor that delivers. Just north of the club is Shumway Marine, a full service marine store with complete boat hauling, repair facility, fuel and dockage. Close by and part of Shumway's is Schooner's, a neat open air bar with riverside deck, occasional live music, and good casual dining. Several other restaurants with great food and drink, are located on the opposite side of the river, but a healthy hike is required.
