Jose's '64 VW Beetle Convertible

|
This is it, the new addition to the family! It's a 1964 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet. It's still 6 Volt and the body is in excellent condition. I have been looking for a VW Convertible for a while, but here in Rochester, NY, it is next to impossible to find one that hasn't crumbled due to rust. I found the car on the Internet, exchanged photographs of the car and pretty much decided it was the car I wanted. I decided to make the owner an offer. The car was in Southern California, about 100 miles from Palm Springs. It just so happens that my brother in law was going out to pick up a 21 Window Bus, so he checked the bug out, gave the owner his money and drove it to Palm Spring. We made arrangements for a car carrier to pick both vehicles up. They were picked up on August 26, 1999. This picture was taken in the summer of 2000. As you can see, it is finished!
The car carrier pulled up to my driveway Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 and I have been restoring and driving the car since then. You can see my brother-in-law's 1966 Bus on the top deck of the carrier. As you can see, I have re-painted the car in its original Bahama Blue color. · I ordered and received the car's "Birth Certificate". · I have started restoring the car. I originally intended to just replace the rusty floor pans, repaint the car and replace the interior. It seems I have gotten just a bit carried away and am currently in the middle of a major ground up restoration. · Interested in following my progress during the restoration? I have been taking pictures as I go along. Let me know what you think! Page 1 - Restoring the chassis. Page 2 - Starting on the body. Don’t ask me why, I am still trying to figure that out myself. Follow the progress here. |
