| Due to
increased population growth in the northwest corner of
Monroe County, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish was
established by Bishop Matthew H. Clark in 1982.
The first mass
celebrated by the parish was held in a barn on Ash Wednesday
1982. By the end of lent the church had moved into an
old abandoned railroad depot in the town of Hamlin.
The first mass celebrated there was on the Vigil of Easter.
In 1985, plans were
made to build a new church on 15 acres of land just north of
town. Ground was broken on May 6th, 1986 and
construction began in June 1987. The first mass
celebrated at the site was on the occasion of "the Rock
Party" when more than 200 men, women and children
brought over 200 TONS of stone from the farms and backyards
throughout the community. These stones now grace the
wall of our sanctuary; a symbol of the family spirit that
characterizes our parish.
The church was
simply blessed by Bishop Clark on October 14, 1989 and was
solemnly dedicated on August 9, 1992. In 1996 a full
immersion baptismal font was installed; also fashioned from
stones brought by parishioners.
Today, with an ever
increasing population of active parishioners, we continue to
finish and furnish our building with time, talent and
treasure as we continually minister in word, worship and
witness, the presence of Christ in this area.
