There
are simple steps that can be taken to maintain the beauty and luster of your
new finished floors. Floors are capable
of light traffic the day after final coat.
Please do not place area rugs or use water on floors during the
following two weeks period. Please keep in mind during colder temperatures the
floor will cure slower, so retention of regular household temperatures is
necessary.
Vacuum
or use an untreated dust mop on your floor regularly. This will keep the sand
and grit off of your floor that may cause premature wear. Throw rugs that are
cleaned on a regular basis are recommended in front of your kitchen sink and at
each outside door. Wipe up food and
other spills immediately using a dampened cloth or paper towel. Regular
cleaning for Glitsa finished floors should be done with
Glitsa Clean. Regular
cleaning for water based finishes should be done with Squeaky Clean. Follow directions on the bottle for correct
application. Glitsa Clean and
Squeaky Clean are available through Rays
Case Floors, Inc. If neither is available use a teaspoon of dish soap to a
gallon of water. Use as little water as possible on the floor. Too much will
make the boards warp, giving the floor a “washboard look.”
Check your chair legs and other
pieces of furniture to be sure they all have Safe Glides felt pads or stainless
steel pads attached to them. Plastic
padding will scratch the surface of floors.
This will allow chairs to glide over the floor without scuffing the
surface. The floor guides are available at Ray
Case Floors, Inc.
Keep high heel shoes in good repair.
Heels that have lost their protective cap , can cause little indentations in
any floor surface, even concrete!
Move heavy objects, such as
appliances, by rolling over plywood underneath. Never drag anything across your
floor.
Renew your worn floors with addition
layers of Finish. When floors remain dull even after cleaning it’s time for
another coat of finish. This will first
be apparent in high traffic areas. As your floor begins to show wear and does
not clean easily, recoating is recommended. Recoating should take place prior
to floors showing bare wood, otherwise floors will need to be
re-sanded. Floors
should never be waxed because it inhibits bond of more finish. If you ever want to recoat, don’t wax. Call
Ray
Case floors Inc. to schedule a time for recoating.
