Linda Hawkinson VanGehuchten Biography


1972 Turned floor lam accepted into the Mint Biannual Exhibition in Charlotte, N.C.

1973 Graduated with bachelor in Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. Majored in crafts, specializing in Furniture Design & Experimental Materials.

1974 Worked for former professor and furniture maker Alan H. Lazarus turning parts for his renowned off center clocks.

1975 Started own woodworking shop in Caracas, Venezuela designing and making custom furniture.

1988 Began giving woodworking and turning workshops and demonstrations in Spanish and English in Venezuela, Mexico, and the United States.

1991 Returned to the United States, settled in Pennsylvania. Established small wood turning studio.

1992 Member of the Turners Anonymous (Affiliated to the American Association of Wood turners). Advisory Committee in 1994. Elected President in 1996.

1995 Juried into the Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh. Elected to the Board 1996.

1996 Exhibitor Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival

1997 Juror for Three Rivers Arts Festival, Juried Artists Market

1998 Juror for Pittsburgh Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh Annual Exhibition.

1999 Elmer's Products Award at Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh Annual Exhibition.

2000 Elected to the Board of the American Association of Wood turners.

2001 Demonstrator for “A Texas Turn or Two” Tenth Wood turning Symposium

2002 Main demonstrator for “A Texas Turn or Two”

2003 Reelected to Board of Directors of the American Association of Woodturners
