From:"Chris Cole" April 6, 2002 Subject: RE: Maze Solution To: "john bailey" Subject: RE: Maze SolutionTo: "john bailey" What is being debated here is whether the author intended for the unmarked doors to be an alternate solution. Since we have no direct statements from Chris Manson on the subject, we can only speculate on his intentions based upon indirect evidence. Such speculation is inherently risky. Nonetheless, there is one piece of evidence that is reasonably convincing. Manson went to the trouble of making sure that the unmarked doors make sense. This means that there always are as many doors leaving a room as there are doors entering a room. This requires a lot of background checking, and it is difficult to believe that Manson would go to the trouble of drawing unmarked doors in the first place, much less making them all line up, without a reason. -----Original Message----- From: john bailey [mailto:jmb184@frontiernet.net] Sent: Friday, April 05, 2002 7:51 PM To: chris@questrel.com Subject: Maze Solution Hi Chris, I have just added the attached page to the correspondence folder of my Maze pages. Pan Walker objected to Chris McManus' solution using un-numbered doors. The posted page has both his original note, my push back, his response, and an exchange I then had with Chris M. I quite forgot about your proposed solution, with even less steps however in an acknowldgement to Chris M. for his last note, I mentioned a recollection that Theseus, before going into the Maze got some thread (from Ariadne?) and intended to use the thread to find his way back out. If a true recollection, that lends weight to your short solution. Just thought you might be amused. Thanks John
