From: Vincente Watkins To: john bailey December 11, 2001 Subject: Room 32 "The symmetry was also disturbed by the apparent loss of one of the room's statues. My visitors thought a thief had broken into the room, removed the figure, and made away with it. This, of course, was one explanation." Another explanation: In Greek mythology, Daedalus made statues so realistic that they were said to move about on their own. As has been mentioned a thousand times before, Daedalus constructed the labyrinth of King Minos. Likewise, the references to the hot sun in the prologue seem to be a reference to the Daedalus/Icarus myth (the hot sun melted the wax on Icarus' wings, causing him to fall and drown in the ocean) (this may also be a pun on "sun"). These clues seem to refer more to Daedalus than Minos, but I take them as sideways indicators of the narrator's identity. John Bailey replied: Outstanding! These are three of the more substantial clues received recently. Consistent with your proposal, I will give this the title of 32_watkins.txt and as we go along I may rename the others. Thanks John
