An excellent 8 or 9 card suit. 9+ playing tricks. No more than one loser in any suit. A good 7 or 8 card suit. Non vul, occasionally 2 losers in the suit. Vul, never more than one loser. No more than one outside ace or king. 7 playing tricks non-vulnerable, 8 vulnerable. Namyats: shows a constructive preempt in the corresponding major (clubs corresponds to hearts, diamonds to spades) with a 7 or 8 card, 1 loser suit. No more than one ace or king outside trumps. 8 or 9 playing tricks.
3NT 3S 3H 3D 3C
A 4 level minor suit preempt. At most 10 HCP, 8 or 9 cards, broken suit, 2 of the top 4 honors, no outside ace or king, 6 to 6+ playing tricks at favorable vul, 7 to 7+ at equal vul, 8 to 8+ at unfavorable. No four card major. No more than 9 or 10 HCP; no void; no other 4 card major; no more than one A or K outside trumps; a good 7 card suit (not more than 2 losers opposite a singleton) vul; non-vul 6 cards occasionally may be okay; 8 is possible; 5 playing tricks at favorable vul, 6 at equal, 7 at unfavorable No more than 10+ HCP; no void; no 4 card major; no more than one A or K outside trumps; a good 7 card suit vul; a good 6 is acceptable non-vul; 8 is possible; 5+ playing tricks at favorable vul, 6 at equal, 7 at unfavorable
2NT 2S 2H 2D 2C
5-11 HCP, preemptive, either minor, bad suit. 5-11 HCP, 6 card suit with 2 of the top 3 or 3 of the top 5 honors, not 4 cards in the other major, normally no void and not 2 singletons. 21-21 HCP, 7 controls,or 27-28 HCP, 10 controls if balanced. If unbalanced, game forcing with primary diamonds, two losers or fewer, 22+ HCP. 23-24 HCP, 8 controls if balanced or 22+ HCP, 3 or few losers if unbalanced with a primary major suit, 2 or fewer with primary clubs. Unbalanced hands with primary diamonds are opened 2D. Forcing to game except 2C-2D-2NT may be passed.
1NT 1S 1H 1D 1C
18-21 HCP, artificial. If unbalanced, 4-5 losers, 5+ controls. If balanced, 19-20 HCP, usually 6 controls. 12-18 HCP; 5+ trumps. 12-18 HCP; 3+ trumps.
